Max R. Hefner

Executive Vice President & Chief Credit Officer

Max HefnerHefner brings more than 30 years of experience in commercial banking and financial services. He has extensive credit experience with community banks as well as large corporations in the commercial, commercial real estate and energy sectors.

Hefner’s career began in 1976 with MBank in Dallas where he attained the position of Vice President and Manager of Corporate Lending.

Most recently, Hefner served Citibank Texas, N.A., a subsidiary of Citigroup, as President and Chief Operating Officer and chaired the Executive Loan Committee. Hefner managed the integration of First American Bank into Citibank Texas, focusing on commercial banking, credit policy and risk management.

Prior to his time with Citibank, Hefner served 16 years in the position of Executive Vice President and Chief Lending Officer of First American Bank, SSB a $3.5 billion institution headquartered in Bryan, Texas with over 100 banking centers in Texas. At First American, Hefner was instrumental in transitioning the bank from the acquisition of a group of failed institutions into one of the leading independent banks in Texas. He served on all Executive management committees and was responsible for the Bank’s lending and credit policy. In addition , he was President of Adam Mortgage Company, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the bank.

Hefner has also held the position of President of Bank of the West, a member of the Ford Bank Group, where he worked with Tom Nichols and Don Cosby for eight years.

Hefner holds BBA and MBA degrees from the University of Texas at Austin.
